I've started reading a book on quantum entanglement for the lay person called "The God Effect" (
http://www.popularscience.co.uk/features/feat19.htm). The author makes prominent mention of Einstein's discomfort with the probabalistic nature of quantum mechanics and cites Einstein's oft-quoted refusal to beleive that "God plays dice with the universe". Much was made of this same quote in one of my favorite science fiction novels, "The Proteus Operation" (
http://www.uchronia.net/bib.cgi/label.html?id=hogaproteu). Combine this with my love of "Chrononauts" and the "Sagan's Joint" promo card of a few years back and it got me thinking that "Einstein's Dice" would be a cool name for an artifact.
What
would it do? If a player has "Einstein's Dice" face up, they may opt on each of their turns to flip up the top card of the draw pile. If it is a "patch", immediately flip the required linchpins for the patch to be valid and play it. If it is a "timewarp", Einstein's Dice disappear through a wormhole in the space-time continuum (discard them) and the "timewarp" is discarded. If it is any other card, there is no effect and the card is discarded. You never know what you'll get if you "play dice with the universe", so be careful.
