Well, I mentioned to some of you that I was going on a trip with our
students to Yellowstone. It was a good and bad trip.
It was very nice to get to see some of the students from the other schools
than the one that I tutored at during the school year. I got to spend some
quality time seeing how many of them had changed and matured; as compared to
when I first met them all from last years summer trip (which was the first thing
we did with this program).
On the way back we were forced to stop in Dubois Wyoming, because the
breaks were not functioning 100% on one of the buses. We ended up going
to park and letting the students to play and have fun. We sent about 2/3 of
the students back on the one functional bus while the rest of the students and
some of the mentors (as we like to think of the adults in the program) stayed
behind.
I brought many games along with us so that the students could play them if
we had any down time (OK, that situation was not quite what I had in mind for
down time). My girlfriend Lou Ann showed them how to play Fluxx, which they
vastly enjoyed and spent several hours playing.
So, if your stuck in a very nice park in Dubois Wyoming with 25 wound up
students ranging in ages from 13 to 15 years of age, I suggest you make sure to
pack your Fluxx decks.
Oh, if your going to break down somewhere in Wyoming with 25 wound up
students ranging in ages from 13 to 15 years of age, I suggest you make
sure to make it Dubois. They gave us a key to the school, so if we needed
an indoor place or a place to sleep we had one. It even had showers in the
lockers rooms we could use if needed.
Thanks
