Meat is good for protein and iron... though I try to cook with a fairly low meat to other food ratio (about 25% before starches)

I think if you can still select from over 80% of the menu at over 80% of
fast food restaurants in the US, choosing such a diet doesn't necessarily
indicate a well-thought out choice ;-)
While I'm not vegetarian myself, I don't think it would be a bad thing if
the perception grew that vegetarians are smarter... because it would be
better for everyone if the quality of vegetables improved in the US and
worldwide (it may already be OK elsewhere). Additionally, it's fairly
common knowledge that meat (as done in the US) is pretty inefficient from
a resources-to-food-value standpoint.
