Hey math teachers -
Have you seen the recent discussion on the Icehouse list about figuring the forumulas for the pyramids? And now Andy's posting of what the "correct" formula is?
I think this is fascinating - people have attempted to extrapolate the basic similarity in the pyramids out to huge sizes (30 pointers?) and then back down to miniscule ( -1 and -2 pointers??)
How can we capture this for the classroom? Is there a math teacher out there willing to take a stab at writing up a quick lesson plan for this? Science I can do... and I can take a stab at a math lesson.... but I'm appealing to the great intellects and experts out there - help?
In any case, it's been a cool discussion - and you can find it all posted (today's will get there eventually...) on the Archives.
