Or you could describe a "videoconference rule": The playing group is not all in one place, but there is a videoconference set up to allow each group to see the other group's koans. Each group might need to play on a lazy susan to allow proper examination of the "back" of a koan, and you'd need to allow adding verbal descriptions if you have something like an upright nest with dark pieces.
