Yeah I'm familiar with that. Heck, gmail seems to be doing the "fi" thing automatically, so I can see that right here. But fF seems to be more reminiscent of an "internet accent" to me. It's sort of like recognizing someone's voice before you see who's talking, which is probably the biggest reason to keep doing it once people notice the pattern.
