Hey gang!
It's that time once again. The Origins event submission deadline looms ever
nearer (it's the 31st of January) and we're working on the schedule. I've
rearranged the schedule a lot, subtracted some columns, added some new, and
we've changed the way we're going to schedule people for demos.
This year, we're going to be scheduling Rabbits for several different
areas. First, we of course maintain the Top Rabbit position in the lab. The
Top Rabbit is responsible for maintaining the administrative area of the
lab, handing out materials that may be necessary, directing new visitors to
various areas within the lab, and greeting the people who come in.
We're adding a new position--Tournament Director. We're not quite sure what
hours to assign to the Tournament director yet, so those slots are still
tentative. The Tournament Director will be responsible for collecting data
from all the people running tournaments of any kind in the lab, and is
essentially the person running the Floating Tournaments if there arises a
need for a judgement to be made.
We're going to try to sign up a couple of rabbits every two hours to work
in our demo areas. This is what the 'Demo Rabbit' slot is for. It seems to
work better to have scheduled times when we can demo games and just have
all the games available. We're going to have a small booth area in the
Exhibit Hall where we'd like to have someone running games, and there's the
possibility that we'll have an area at the bottom of the escalator to run
games as well. That's still pending finalization of the space assignments
by GAMA. If we don't have that space, we can still demo games in the Lab.
There will be three Floating Tournaments this year: Binary Homeworlds, Are
You A Werewolf?, and Volcano. These three games seem most suited to the
format, being long games for two players, or else being Werewolf. We plan
to have some sort of organizing board in the Lab where folks in floating
tournaments can post their availability and maybe even a cell number if
they like.
I know what you're thinking now, if you've looked at the schedule... "What
the heck is he doing with Saturday night?!" I'm leaving it that way for now
because I'm not sure what the best place for those championships is, and
I'd like to have some input on that.
Another question: what sort of special events stuff worked last year, and
what didn't? Are there any other events that we've missed or you'd like to
see on the schedule? Carol and Eeyore, what are you folks thinking about
Rabbit Crafts this year? Was last year too ambitious or just right? I left
the craft slots on, but we can very easily remove some of them.
It's far from a completed work, but I think we're at a good leaping-off
point. Please give me your feedback and comments and suggestions and
anything else you'd like to toss my way! I'm sure I've missed something...
let me know if you notice anything like that as well.
Origins is only five months away! WHOO!
