I recently lost a drive too - my replacement has been fanatstic. I got
myself a Western Digital 250GB external, it's the size of a small
hardcover book. While not the exact product that I got, i'd recommend
the following:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=BROWSE&N=200112+4294967095+502461+4294966864&Ne=300689&product_code=52019055&Pn=My_Book_Premium_Edition_250GB_Hard_Drive

The one I got was something like $99 instead of $139, and I thought I
was *so* clever
for saving $40 when the only difference was that my drive had only a
USB 2.0 connector,
and the more expensive one also had FireWire400.

....then I found out that the computer I was hooking up to only runs
USB 1.1, and so backing up to that drive takes a little bit longer
than I'd prefer. (So I daisy-chain it - firewire connection between
desktop-to-be-backed-up and laptop, and then USB2.0 between the laptop
and the external drive)

Anyhow. Them's my two cents. aside from that they work well, I'm just
charmed by the fact that they look like little black books with pretty
glowing lights.

Hello Geeks!

So, I lost a hard drive recently and I need to replace it. In fact, I want
two. I'm looking to buy a matched pair of external mac-compatible hard
drives. Of course, I'm looking for reliability, plenty of space, and as low
a price as possible... but I don't need outrageously big hard drives, 250
gig each is probably enough. Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for
me for some place I can order something specific, which is maybe on sale or
something?
