Why not try a game of volcano on ee0r's martian chess boards. (the 3 player setup is a corner of a cube, with attached sides, flattened)
The problem with the stacked game is that people will still get all the colors (if someone gets three whites first) rather quickly.

group:
Whenever a cap lands on plain earth (no pieces), that cap is removed
from the game. The game ends when there are no caps left. Thus, the game
lasts longer and towards the end, you've got to make sure that you're
far enough ahead when you start knocking off volcano caps.
