I don't know if this helps the discussion along or sends it to a total side-trip, but....
Eeyore has done some experimenting with dyeing the pyramids:
http://www.ee0r.com/proj/dyepyramids.html
Eeyore is a genius at finding cool stuff to craft, and is a very particular detail-oriented-enough person to write out all such wonderful directions - and cautions. He says at the end of that page: "...you have sucessfully dyed some pieces, though maybe not the color you were aiming for."
So, with that caveat.... you too can have (maybe - with luck) your own Magenta (or whatever color you're pining for) 'mids.
Eeyore... how has the color held up since you did those dye jobs??

I'm talking about the injection-molded sets, sans root-beer and watermelon.
Although I still want a 12th color so I can split my collection into four "sets" (monochrome/rainbow/xeno-colors)... magenta would be good.
The colors respectively would be:
Mono: Black/white/grey/clear
Rainbo: red/blue/green/yellow
Xeno: cyan/purple/orange/magenta
