Hi all,
For the record, I'll say the poll was no secret. It was discussed on the list (so everyone should already know about it). In fact the list had to be put into moderation due to the inflammatory replies from David here... Everyone was invited to express their opinion but it is a fact most didn't bother. Even though it's true that anyone is free to display contest results and other information on their games as they want, it's also true that there is a "default" box that in this case (after a long discussion and a poll that stayed in the wiki for some weeks) was deemed inappropriate for this contest because there were too few votes.
Every designer is still free to change the box back, remove it, or make a new one. By the way, the decision of what kind of infobox should be added by default to all the contest participants should be open to all the community, not just the participants. So the votes from non participants are totally valid. The poll was 4-3 indeed, but Ryan also expressed that he'd agree with the change if all the names for all the games were added, which I did.
If indeed there are designers that don't check the wiki's Recent Changes page and were surprised by the changes, I'm sorry. I assumed we all check both places. I should have posted on the list about it.

This is a heads up to the list that the Win08 IGDC game pages are being modified to use a Winner Box which lists all below 3rd as "Other Entries".
This was done based on a "poll" which resolved (sort of) as 4 to 3 in favor. Looking more closely at the "poll" in terms of those affected (i.e. actual Participants), the results would be 2 to 1 against (two Participants against one) with three non-Participants offering input (in this case, in favor of an obfuscatory Winner Box). It is my considered opinion that those whose pages actually are changed
by such a "poll resolution" be the only ones whose preferences matter, as their pages are the only ones affected.
Those of you with a stake in this "issue" might want to confirm that you are happy with the changes being made to your game pages. I believe that this is in keeping with the general modus operandi of the IHG.org wiki: as a community, we respect a designer's right to present his or her game in whatever manner he or she wishes, and to accept (or hide, or reject) any kudoes or recognition it is given. Apparently, there are folks who believe the IHG.org wiki should conform to their particular preferences across all pages....
David
