The Geek appeal of many of the LL games is not the complexity but the ingenuity and the setting (background or something of the like). For instance Martian Chess - Set in a Sci Fi Setting and with the mechanic that you must give up your piece to make a capture. Zendo Steeped on ancient wisdom and logic. Fluxx where you do not prepare for one goal but all the goals (note I didn't say anything about achieving all of them just preparing for them) and if you don't like the rules , you change them. Additionally LL promotes creativity. If you think it would be great to have a game about 'widget' manufacturing, take your pyramids and make a game about widget manufacturing.

Is not, of course exhaustive. But I am at the end of my lunch break.
