Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but supertasting is the recessive trait, right? And normal tasting is the dominant trait? If that's the case, than the correct notation is tt for a supertaster, and TT or Tt for normal taster. In the story of the adopted child, his parents would both have to be tt, while he could be TT or Tt. And Ryan, that would make your mother tt, you Tt, and dad either TT or Tt

I don't think left-handedness is a simple recessive trait: my parents
are both left-handed and I'm right-handed.
