You can't ignore the rule insert. Are you familiar with "Jumping in"? It's a rule that appears only in the insert, not in the cards
I don't present you with arguments while ignore the Basic Rules, so you shouldn't be presenting me with arguments while ignoring the rule insert.

We're not playing by common sense anymore? Speak for yourself. I'm playing by a common-sense reading of the rules on the cards. I lost the rule booklet long ago, and honestly don't give a damn what it says -- the rules are on the cards, after all.
Eeyore (you posted while I was writing this): I consider the rule insert to be the fundamental rules. In any game, a rulebook will present the bare-bones, getting-started rules, from which all the cards (etc.) expand.
