Re: [Icehouse] Volcano preference question

For Volcano specifically, having dividers is pretty darned important to me. Volcano differs from, say, Ice Age or Ice Dao in this regard because of the number of occupied squares and the height of the stacks. Martian Mud Wrestling is in the middle of that spectrum.

IMHO, the ideal square size is 1 1/16" to 1 3/32" with 1/8" to 3/16" dividers. (The width of the outermost border is unimportant.) For Volcano specifically, I'm willing to put up with a hard time retrieving dropped pieces in order to have all my volcanos close together.

Between the large squares, the alternating colors, and the crease causing unfilled pyramids to tip, playing Volcano, Blockade, M. Mud Wrestling, or M. Backgammon on a chessboard bandana is just plain irritating. I'd take the time to draw a Volcano board on paper before using an available bandana. (Of course, Blockade and M.Backgammon don't call for a actual board.)

Hey All,

I know we've been caught up in the Treehouse debates, but I'd like to change the subject for a quick question.

When people are playing Volcano (or any of the volcano variants) - how important is it to have a board with dividers in between the pieces?  You know, like a standard volcano board instead of just a chessboard?

I'm asking because I'm playing around with a craft idea for Origins.  Just want to know if I should allow for the divider sections or if I can just put the chessboard in as is.

Thanks!
Carol
