When people are playing Volcano (or any of the volcano variants) - how
important is it to have a board with dividers in between the pieces? You

I'm asking because I'm playing around with a craft idea for Origins.
Just want to know if I should allow for the divider sections or if I can
just put the chessboard in as is.

Thanks!

Being often a bit clumsy, I appreciate the dividers on a Volcano board very much--not infrequently has it saved me from restarting a game because of my carelessness with the pieces. The extreme mobility of a stiff board with dividers is nothing to be sniffed at, especially since a game of Volcano is the perfect thing to pass around when playing a game that has long turns and several players. The game's strategy is much more readily apparent if you can rotate the board as you're looking at it, too.

But I like Volcano enough to play it on any surface, board or no. :)
