Not to be too nitpicky, but what you're talking about is templates, and the structure would be with curly braces {{Con|Balticon|balticon's url}} instead of brackets. If you want, join the discussion on the wiki here:

One thing here -- Wiki allows fairly hefty includes (ie, functions) --
including ones that add categories to a page. So this could be
structured not as manually adding [[Category:Cons:Balticon]] to your
page, but instead adding [[Con|Balticon|balticon's url]] which would
add the balticon image, the balticon url, etc, in some nice pretty
form -- as well as also adding you to the Category:Con:Balticon page
as a side effect. In theory, this could involve _javascript_ that let
you click on the icon to add it to your own User page -- though I'm
not sure we want to Go There.
