I also recommend Dharma Trading. A few other thoughts: Another reason why Rit won't stay for tie-dyeing is that it needs to be hot to react and set well. Tie-dyeing needs to be done cold, so Procion dyes, made for cold water, are ideal. They do need to be fixed with soda-ash, as previously mentioined, and the easiest way to do that is to pre-soak the garmets in a solution. You don't want to let them dry out in between, so that the chemical reaction can take place. One thing that no one has mentioned yet: if you are mixing the dyes from powder yourself, it's best to mix the powder with a tablespoon or so of water first, make a paste, and then add the rest of the water.
