Again, I thank you all for the lively and useful comments. No matter what I
decide, I want to know that I thought the decision through as fully as
possible, and y'all are totally helping with that.
Unfortunately, opinions run deep on both sides, and I remain torn. I fear
that no matter what I decide on, some people will think I made the wrong
choice. And while I had been leaning towards the Green = Purple approach,
I'm now thinking about sticking to my original plan.
While Cyan may be closely related to Blue, the actual Blue mids are very
dark
and the Purple mids feel like a better substitution than the Cyan mids.
I agree. From the standpoint of the Darkness Factor, my original mapping
makes more sense. The Blue pieces are very dark, as are the Purples, while
Cyan and Green are lighter colors. Viewed together, Blue and Purple feel a
lot more equivalent than the Purple and Green.
But here's the test that really makes my original mapping feel compelling.
Here on our mantelpiece I have a full set of Trees, arranged in a spectrum:
Red Orange Yellow Clear Green Cyan Blue Purple. Seeing them lined up this
way, Alison pointed out how my original mapping seems like the correct one,
since each Xeno color follows naturally after its corresponding Rainbow
color. On the other hand, Green and Purple seem miles apart.
So like I say, I'm leaning towards Cyan = Green after all.
Either way, I have to decide tomorrow.
